Learn MorePartnerships - It Takes A Village To Build A District
Envisioning, planning and executing a project of this size takes many different people and companies. We are proud to call these companies our partners:
DUKE ENERGY
Formerly the parent company of Crescent Communities, our partnership and collaboration with Duke Energy dates back to the 1960's. Today, we value their input on planning for home energy savings and reduced consumption as well as a wide array of technologies to reduce our carbon footprint.
CATAWBA RIVERKEEPER
Catawba Riverkeeper is the only non-profit, on-the-water advocate for the entire 8,900 miles of waterways in the Catawba-Wateree River Basin. Since planning for the River District commenced in 2016, The Riverkeeper has been an invaluable partner, advising on best practices for stormwater management, producing shoreline cleanup efforts, and advising on educational and programming opportunities at The River District.
CATAWBA LANDS CONSERVANCY
CLC strives to assist landowners in achieving their personal vision for the future of their land. In addition to holding conservation easements throughout portions of the River District, in 2023, the CLC team engaged in a comprehensive bio-diversity study of the River District, orchestrated to help improve the diverse wildlife across our property.
MECKLENBURG COUNTY - PARK AND RECREATION
Activation of over 550 acres of preserved green space + 30 miles of trails, 30 parks, two of which are over 20 acres and are in partnership with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation.
CAROLINA RAPTOR CENTER
Carolina Raptor Center ignites imaginations and inspires engagement in the natural world through the exploration and rehabilitation of birds of prey. The River District will work with the the Raptor Center on programs for enhancing bird habitat across the masterplan.
TARHEEL TRAILBLAZERS
The Trailblazers is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, recognized as tax exempt in October 1997. Over the years the association has grown to over 650 resourceful, energetic and active men and women of all ages. Our volunteers work directly with local land managers, building and assisting in the maintenance of over 110 miles of carefully constructed, sustainable mountain bike trails, in the Metro – Charlotte region.
At The River District, the Trailblazers have been instrumental in designing and implementing the Airline Bike Park and will assist with future trail growth connecting visitors and residents to throughout the property and to the Catawba River.
She Built This City
She Built This City's mission is to provide industry-disruptive programming that sparks interest and builds pathways to lucrative careers in the skilled trades for youth, women, and marginalized communities. The River District has worked with She Built This City on multiple community outreach initiatives including an outdoor furniture workshop session with Berryhill Elementary as well as volunteer build sessions across several mixed-income housing projects in the Charlotte region.
